Community Care Donation Drive
We are thrilled to announce the incredible success of the WGF x GirlGov Community Care Donation Drive!
Together, we collected over 3,000 essential items for refugee and immigrant families in Pittsburgh—more than four times the number of items we collected last year. This initiative exemplifies our commitment to community care and gender equity, while also highlighting the dedication and leadership of our young participants in GirlGov.
Our young leaders engaged their schools and communities, raising awareness and support, and deepening their understanding of civic action and public service.
The GirlGov’ers played a vital role in the advocacy drive, creating engaging videos to promote the initiative. Click the links below to review their inspiring work:
OTHER INITIATIVES
The Women and Girls Foundation is proud to collaborate with several organizations across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to support initiatives and advocacy efforts related to the intersection of gender and racial equity, climate justice, paid leave, and the wage gap.
Here are some of those initiatives:
LEVEL UP GREATER PITTSBURGH PAY EQUITY CAMPAIGN: The campaign exists to improve the Greater Pittsburgh region’s economy, strengthen its organizations, and build strength for its families by closing the wage gap that perpetuates the issue of poverty that Black women face in the area. The campaign is powered by the Women and Girls Foundation, the Black Women’s Policy Center, and YWCA Greater Pittsburgh. Learn more at levelup-pa.com.
JUST FILMS PITTSBURGH: A series of social justice films that aims to educate, inspire, challenge, and move viewers to action. It’s sponsored by the Black Women’s Policy Center, Chatham University Art & Design Department, Women’s Institute, MomsWork Powered by NCJW Pittsburgh, the Women and Girls Foundation, the Women’s Law Project, and YWCA Greater Pittsburgh. View the latest film lineup at justfilmspgh.org.
EQUAL PAY DAY: When the Women and Girls Foundation first began efforts to raise awareness of the wage gap and remedy this issue in Southwest PA, women were earning less than 70 cents for every dollar a man was making. Since then, WGF has worked with city and country leaders throughout the region to pass wage equity legislation and support fair pay for women. Today, women are making 75 cents to a man’s dollar. We have made change happen in our region, but there is still significant work to be done in Southwest PA and throughout the state to close the gap for women in Pennsylvania.
